Jehovah (Yahweh)

Yahweh, our unchangeable God, is so different from us: He never lies. He keeps His promises. He never flip-flops on His stance. He is not swayed by public opinion. He cannot be manipulated. He cannot be threatened into changing His standards. He is our immovable Rock. Our firm Foundation. Our Cornerstone. Faithfulness and truth are not what Jehovah does; they are who He is. They are part of His DNA, and He cannot deny who He is.

“For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13)

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)

How comforting His immutability is in our constantly changing, unstable society! Think about it: Three things in this life we can absolutely count on happening are death, taxes, and continual change, right?! If things are going well now, enjoy them, because they will change. If things are horrible right now, sit tight and take heart; they will change.

But the trembling insecurity provoked by change can be calmed and stabilized in this one truth: the all-powerful, constantly good, never manipulated Yahweh does. not. change. It is virtually impossible to alter Him. If you could trust Him through the last raging storm, you can trust Him through the next one, too. If Jehovah is completely good, then He is completely good all the time. So, when you don’t understand the horrible circumstances He has allowed into your life, you can trust that He is working it out for good, no matter how bad it feels right now.

“Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (Hebrews 6:17-18)

Yahweh is a promise-keeping God. His beloved Son sacrificed everything to give the promise of Heaven to those who obey the gospel. That same promise-keeper now lives inside every Christian, empowering us to live in freedom and victory! What an awesome, merciful God we serve!
