Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be God on election day 2024? To be able to read the minds and hearts of every American awaiting the results of possibly the most consequential election in our nation’s history? Can you imagine what it would be like to see the level of anxiety, tension, fear, and stress in the heart of every person concerned about our nation’s future?
Wow…it’s a good thing that only God can read our hearts and minds, huh? That weight is a burden no human being could begin to carry. Aren’t you thankful that He can? He really is big enough to handle the things that are out of our control. But I wonder if it hurts God’s heart to see us all tied up in tension knots. I wonder if He just longs for us to turn our eyes upon Jesus and truly see Him for who He really is.
One of God’s names is Jehovah Sabaoth, The Lord of Armies—the Lord of the fighting angels. The application of this name which is often translated “The Lord of Hosts” is this: The Lord of the armies of heaven will always fulfill his purposes, even when the armies of His earthly people fail.
God has a purpose and a plan, friends. He always has. And nothing…nothing will stop His purposes from being fulfilled. He is God. No enemy will ever compare with Him or stop His plan from moving forward.
Even if His plan is to use evil leaders to discipline and prune us, He is working for our ultimate good, and we can trust Him with our future.
Psalm 46:10-11says, “‘Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’ The Lord of hosts [Jehovah Sabaoth] is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.”
The picture the original language paints of verse 10 is like a child struggling against a parent who is trying to clean and tend to his scraped knee. God is saying to us, “Stop freaking out; settle down; I love you, and I’ve got you. Be still and trust me. I’ve got this.”
Regardless of the results of the election, I wonder if this is the message God wants us to fall asleep with tonight: “I love you. I’ve got you. Stop freaking out. Rest in my arms and trust me. I’ve got this.”
Let’s rest in His arms and let Him do His job, friends. He’s got this.
Sweet dreams,
~Shawna
