Rom. 8:15-16: “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.”
It seems impossible to truly grasp the enormity of grace that God has shown to us—His stubborn creation who have rebelled against Him. Yet, through Jesus’ willing sacrifice, God has given us the opportunity to be adopted back into His family. If we have surrendered our lives to Christ and obeyed the gospel, Almighty God has made us His children!
Galatians 3:27: “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” As Christians, we wear Christ—He is our garment. And King Jesus, who is our clothing, is unstained by the enemy. That means Christians are wrapped in perfect royalty from head to toe!
If we are in Christ, ladies, we are not the stressed out, worn-out girls we see in the mirror every morning. We are princesses of the one and only King of Kings, in the one and only true kingdom! And that King of Kings is our Abba—our Daddy! Our time on this decaying earth has dulled our senses to the royal blood running through our veins. He has made us royalty, ladies; it’s high time we understand and act like it.
But how does true royalty act?
Luke 22:24-26: “And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them…but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.”
John 13:3-5: “Jesus, knowing that the Father had handed all things over to Him…took a towel and tied it around Himself. Then He poured water into the basin, and began washing the disciples’ feet and wiping them with the towel which He had tied around Himself."
Notice when and where this dispute is taking place. If these passages were written chronologically, Jesus had just served the disciples the Lord’s Supper, which symbolized the bloody torture He would endure for their salvation. The King of Kings has just washed their feet. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, showed them what true royalty looks like: servant leadership.
How does true royalty live? A true princess knows in her heart that she’s royalty; she knows she is treasured and valued by her King; she doesn’t need other people to determine her worth. She doesn’t need to put on airs to earn human approval or affirmation. The king has already told her that she’s chosen, redeemed, and sanctified; and she chooses to believe Him. She draws her worth from His words.
Because she doesn’t have to save face to prove her significance, and she needs nothing from this world, a princess can humble herself, get down on her knees and wash the feet of others. She can spend her time loving her King and serving people. She can spend her energy bringing lost souls into her Father’s kingdom. She doesn’t need to pine after temporary earthly distractions, because she has a priceless eternal inheritance waiting for her.
The struggles of life make Heaven seem so far away, and weary exhaustion can dim our view of who we really are—princesses of the Most High God who will inherit a real kingdom with a real King on a real throne, living as royalty forever!
Therefore, let us stay focused on our calling as a princess who serves others, who loves her neighbor as herself, and loves her King with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength.
For our King,
~Shawna
